Hotel Owner Claims "Super Friendly" Guests Stole Everything In Room

A hotel owner in Wales was left stunned after a couple of her guests stole everything from their room, including electric appliances, before checking out. According to the BBC, the owner of the Dolphin Hotel in Pembroke Dock accused two of her guests of stealing 200 pounds of items after checking in their stay on Saturday.

The 43-year-old landlady, Natalie Newton, said that the couple seemed "super friendly" while checking in, but she was still suspicious because they did not have any luggage with them.

Ms Newton claimed that all in all, the guests made off the kettle, an electric fan, luxury towels, two lamps, the tea and coffee container, a charging tower and other stuff, the BBC reported.

"This will cost at least 200 pounds to replace everything but it also meant I couldn't rent the room out again until it was all replenished," the 43-year-old said, as per Metro

She further stated that crime could not have come at a worse time for the business which has been in her family since 1999. "We're trying to run a boutique hotel and restaurant but first we had Covid and now we have the cost of living crisis - I don't know how much longer we can keep going," she said.

"I tried contacting the couple. I have phoned the number they left, I have messaged them but they haven't come back. I even tried charging their card but the payment was declined," Ms Newton claimed, as per the outlet

According to the landlady, the only things the guests didn't take were the shampoo and soaps from the bathroom. She also said that the room was unusable for a number of days while everything was replaced. She said that the couple had south Wales accents and their card was declined.

Ms Newton has now put out an appeal to identify the miscreants who used Booking.com to reserve the room. She is hoping the CCTV footage she provided to the cops will help identify the duo.

The Dyfed-Powys Police, on the other hand, said inquiries were ongoing into the incident.

PM Modi To Meet ISRO Scientists Today, Celebrate Chandrayaan-3 Success

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengaluru today morning to congratulate Team ISRO on the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission to the Moon.

He is slated to spend an hour at the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) and greet scientists of the national space agency headquartered in Bengaluru.

On Wednesday evening as the Lander Module of Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully touched down on the lunar surface, PM Modi had joined the ISRO team at Mission Operations Complex (MOX) at ISTRAC virtually from Johannesburg, where he was attending the 15th BRICS summit.

According to BJP, party leaders and workers would welcome PM Modi at two places - outside the HAL Airport and Jalahalli Cross, which is close to ISTRAC.

He had also flown down to Bengaluru on the night of September 6, 2019 to watch the planned touch down of Chandrayaan-2 mission's 'Vikram' lander. But in the early hours of September 7, barely minutes before it was slated to land, ISRO lost contact with the craft, just 2.1 km above the lunar surface.

"Serious Danger To His Life": Imran Khan's Wife Tells Pak Supreme Court

Pakistan's jailed prime minister Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi on Friday urged the Supreme Court to take "serious notice" of her husband's deteriorating health, saying it posed a "serious danger to his life".

The 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman is currently lodged in the Attock District Jail in Punjab province after his conviction in the Toshakhana corruption case earlier this month.

Bushra Bibi moved the Supreme court following her meeting with the cricketer-turned-politician at the prison on Tuesday.

Bushra through her counsel Rifaqat Hussain Shah submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court, requesting it to intervene for the sake of Imran Khan's health.

According to the affidavit, Bushra "found a significant decline in the petitioner's health" and that he "appears to have lost weight substantially during the course of his confinement, particularly loss of muscles around his arms".

"Such a decline in the health of a person in his 70s can be a serious danger to his life...it is feared that the petitioner's life is seriously threatened for which it is humbly prayed that this honourable court may kindly take serious notice of the same," it said.

The affidavit stated that Bushra Bibi was allowed to meet Khan after "unwarranted delays and difficulties" on August 22 at the Attock jail.

This is not the first time that Bushra has expressed fear of her husband's life in danger. She has expressed similar concerns in a letter to the Punjab government last week. In the letter, the former first lady said she feared that Imran Khan could be "poisoned" in jail.

As Khan languishes in jail, his legal team has been trying hard to get relief from courts.

However, earlier in the day, the Islamabad High Court adjourned until Monday the hearing of a petition challenging Khan's conviction and sentence in the Toshakahna corruption case.

Delhi Couple Kidnap Baby Boy After Daughter Asks For Brother To Tie Rakhi

A couple was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a one-month-old boy after their daughter asked them for a brother to tie rakhi on the upcoming Raksha Bandhan festival, police said on Friday.

According to the police, the 17-year-old son of Sanjay Gupta, 41, and Anita Gupta, 36, residents of Raghubir Nagar in Tagore Garden, had died last year, they said.

On Thursday at 4.34 am, police got information regarding the kidnapping of an infant of a handicapped woman. The complainant couple, who lives on a footpath at Chhatta Rail Chowk, alleged that when they woke up around 3 am, they discovered that their child was missing and suspected that someone had kidnapped him, a senior police officer said.

During the investigation, police checked the CCTV cameras of the nearby area and saw two bike-borne people roaming in the area. They checked around 400 CCTV cameras and traced them up to LNJP Hospital, the officer said.

Thereafter, police analysed all the details and found that the alleged bike was registered in the name of Sanjay, the officer said.

The area was a cluster and crime-prone. Around 15 police personnel, along with woman staff, equipped with weapons cordoned off the area. They went to C-Block in Tagore Garden's Raghubir Nagar where they found the accused couple and the kidnapped child, Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) Sagar Singh Kalsi said.

Sanjay and Anita disclosed that their teenage son died after falling off a terrace on August 17 last year and their 15-year-old daughter was asking for a brother to tie rakhi on the upcoming Raksha Bandhan, he said.

So, they decided to kidnap a boy. The couple found this infant sleeping at some distance from his mother near Chhatta Rail Chowk and abducted him to take care of him as their son, Mr Kalsi said.

Sanjay, a tattoo artist by profession, was previously involved in three criminal cases, police said, adding that Anita is a mehandi artist.

The infant's mother is handicapped from both hands and legs and his father is a rag picker. They are homeless and live on a footpath, they said.

Company Changes Its 50-Foot Office Sign After Chandrayaan-3 Landing

India's third moon mission, Chandrayaan-3, landed on the Moon's south pole on August 23. The successful moon mission has made India the fourth country to achieve a soft landing on the lunar surface after the US, China, and the erstwhile Soviet Union. Parties and prayers were held with great fervour across the country ahead of the historic lunar touchdown. Celebrating the occasion, Magicpin, which describes itself as a local savings super app on X, formerly Twitter, has recently changed its 50-foot office sign in Gurugram's IFFCO Chowk to commemorate the historic achievement by the scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation.

On the afternoon of August 23, the company took to the microblogging platform and said, "If Chandrayaan lands on the moon, We'll change our 50 FOOT Office Sign from magicpin to magicISRO @IFFCO chowk Gurgaon."

Around 6 pm on the same evening, Vikram lander reached the Moon and the country entered an elite space club that had only three nations so far. Keeping up their promise, the company tweeted an image of the changed company board at their Gurugram office on August 24. The office board read "magicISRO" with a moon made on the letter "i". "WE KEPT OUR PROMISE Just like #Chandrayaan3 Hope you've kept yours For India, even sky is not the limit And for you & us, the only way is up," they said in the tweet alongside a picture of the office sign.

Since being shared, the post has amassed over 1.4 lakh tweets and a thousand likes.

Anshoo Sharma, the co-founder and CEO of the company said, "ISRO has inspired a billion plus people to believe that we can all reach the moon, and beyond!"

"Proud of you bhai," said a user.

"ISRO created magic indeed," added a person.

A third person wrote, "Indeed a wonderful gesture!!"

Meanwhile, ISRO shared the first selfies from the moon's surface of India's robots Vikram and Pragyan. Vikram lander took images and a video of its ramp as the Pragyan rover was at its snail's pace. It is to be noted that Vikram has landed in an area that seems relatively plain which should give Pragyan the opportunity to do its moonwalk.

Chandrayaan-3's accomplishment is special as no other spacecraft has been able to achieve a soft landing near the Moon's South Pole. The south pole - far from the equatorial region targeted by previous missions including the crewed Apollo landings - is full of craters and deep trenches.

Swiggy Said to Have Initiated Talks for IPO Plans, Eyes Stock Listing in 2024

Swiggy, the Softbank-backed food delivery company, is eyeing a 2024 stock market listing and has initiated talks with bankers to assess its valuation, after halting the process for months due to weak markets, three sources with direct knowledge of the matter said.

Swiggy, which delivers food from restaurants and also groceries, was valued at $10.7 billion (nearly Rs. 88,350 crore) in its last fundraising in 2022 but like many Indian startups put its IPO plans on hold amid a funding crunch and investor concerns about stretched valuations.

But as global and Indian markets have rebounded Swiggy has restarted its IPO planning by inviting eight investment banks to make pitches in early September to work on the IPO, including Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan and Bank of America, two of the sources said.

Swiggy is using the last funding round valuation of $10.7 billion as a benchmark for IPO planning, said one of the sources, who is directly involved in the planning process. But this source said the company has yet to decide on a potential stake sale or final valuation.

Invesco, a minor shareholder in Swiggy, in May valued the Indian company at around $5.5 billion (nearly Rs. 45,400 crore), it said in a filing.

Swiggy had initially considered raising $800 million (nearly Rs. 6,600 crore) to $1 billion (nearly Rs. 8,260 crore) via the IPO, banking sources who worked on it in early 2022 have said.

Swiggy, JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley did not respond to requests for comment, while Bank of America declined to comment.

The three sources said Swiggy is aiming to list between July-September 2024 which would be after national elections in India due by May.

Swiggy rival Zomato's shares have risen 54.8 percent so far this year, in a sign that investor confidence is returning to India's financial markets.

On Friday, Indian grocery startup Zepto said it has raised $200 million (nearly Rs. 1,650 crore) in fresh funding at a valuation of $1.4 billion (nearly Rs. 11,560 crore), making it the first Indian startup to cross the billion-dollar valuation mark in nearly a year.

Swiggy in May said its core food delivery business had turned profitable, nine years after starting operations, even as its newer grocery delivery service, Instamart, continues to make losses.

Chandrayaan-3's Pragyan Rover Begins Walk on Moon, Confirms ISRO

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Thursday said that Pragyan Rover began its moonwalk on the lunar surface. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), ISRO said, "Chandrayaan-3 Mission. Chandrayaan-3 Rover to MOX, ISTRAC, Moon walk begins!"

Earlier today ISRO also released the images of the Lander Imager Camera which captured the moon's image just before the touchdown on the lunar surface.

"Here is how the Lander Imager Camera captured the moon's image just prior to touchdown," ISRO posted on X.

After a 40-day journey into space, the Chandrayaan-3 lander, 'Vikram', touched down on the uncharted lunar South Pole on Wednesday evening, making India the first country to do so.

India also became only the fourth nation after the US, Russia and China to successfully conduct a lunar landing mission. The country has also become the first nation to make a soft landing on the south pole of the Moon.

The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft put down the Vikram lander on the lunar surface, tilting to a horizontal position ahead of landing.

The spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota on July 14.

A GSLV Mark 3 (LVM 3) heavy-lift launch vehicle was used for the launch of the spacecraft that was placed in the lunar orbit on August 5 and since then, it went through a series of orbital manoeuvres before zeroing in on the moon's surface.

SpaceX Sued by US Justice Department Over Alleged Discrimination in Hiring

The US Justice Department sued Elon Musk-owned rocket and satellite company SpaceX on Thursday for allegedly discriminating against asylum seekers and refugees in hiring.

"The lawsuit alleges that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act," the Justice Department said in a statement.

In job postings and public statements over several years, SpaceX wrongly claimed that under federal regulations known as export control laws, SpaceX could hire only US citizens and lawful permanent residents, sometimes referred to as "green card holders," the Justice Department said.

The Justice Department also pointed to online posts from the company's billionaire owner Musk as example of "discriminatory public statements."

The lawsuit cited a June 2020 post on X, formerly called Twitter, by CEO Musk to his then 36 million followers that said: "US law requires at least a green card to be hired at SpaceX, as rockets are advanced weapons technology."

SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit.

"Our investigation found that SpaceX failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law," said US Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department's civil rights division.

Clarke also said SpaceX recruiters and high-level officials "actively discouraged" asylum seekers and refugees from seeking work opportunities at the company.

The United States seeks fair consideration and back pay for asylum seekers and refugees who were deterred or denied employment at SpaceX due to the alleged discrimination, the Justice Department said.

The lawsuit also seeks civil penalties in an amount to be determined by court and policy changes to ensure SpaceX complies with the federal non-discrimination mandate going forward.

"Incredible Moment": Sundar Pichai Congratulates India On Moon Mission

Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has joined millions of across the world in congratulating India on becoming the first nation to land near the Moon's south pole. India also became the fourth nation to soft land a craft on the lunar surface.

"What an incredible moment!" Mr Pichai posted on X, formerly Twitter.

"Congratulations to ISRO for the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon this morning. Today, India became the first country to successfully achieve a soft landing on the southern polar region of the Moon," the Google chief executive said, referring to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

Areas near the moon's South Pole is seeing a "gold rush" because of high chances of finding large amount of water there, first found by the Chandrayaan-2 mission.

The rover Pragyan rolled out a few hours after lander Vikram's touchdown on the Moon's surface.

Lander Vikram's touched down days after a Russian probe crashed in the same region and four years since the previous Chandrayaan-2 attempt failed at the last moment.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission has captivated public attention since launching nearly six weeks ago in front of thousands of cheering spectators.

Chandrayaan-3 took much longer to reach the Moon than the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 1970s, which arrived in a matter of days.

India used rockets much less powerful than the ones the US used back then, meaning the probe had to orbit the Earth several times to gain speed before embarking on its month-long journey.

The lander detached from its propulsion module last week and had been sending images of the Moon's surface since entering lunar orbit on August 5.

The solar-powered rover Pragyan will explore the lunar surface and transmit data to Earth over its two-week lifespan.
