Japan Is Paying Families 1 Million Yen Per Child To Move Out Of Tokyo

Japan is going to pay families 1 million Yen per child to move out of Tokyo this year to combat the rapid depopulation in the country's rural areas, according to reports. Under this new proposal, a household with two children could receive 3 million Yen in support if they leave the Tokyo area.

The government hopes that 10,000 people will have moved from Tokyo to rural areas by 2027 under this scheme which began in 2019. Last year, the government supported 1,184 families, while 290 in 2020 and 71 in 2019.

The support for children comes on top of a flat 1 million Yen that families can already get for moving, Time magazine reported. Those eligible to apply for the support funds are households who have lived in the central Tokyo metropolitan area for five years.

The central government and local municipalities are splitting the cost of the funds. Additional support would also be provided if the families want to start a business in the local area.

However, claiming the 1 million Yen to move to an idyllic rural town isn't as easy as it sounds. Families hoping to avail of the support must live in their new homes for at least five years and one member of the household must be in work or plan to open a new business. Those who move out before five years have passed will have to return the cash.

In an attempt to draw crowds, the benefits of Japan's towns and villages are being constantly highlighted. Among them is the availability of "eligibile men", as in the case of Otari village, and easy access to childcare.

With more young people moving away for opportunities in cities, Japan's rural areas have seen rapid depopulation in recent years. Officials hope that the enticing amount will encourage families to revitalise these regions and ease pressure on space and public services in greater Tokyo, The Guardian reported.

This is the latest attempt to reinvigorate the regions amid yet another drop in Japan's population, and birthrate. In 2021, the number of births totalled 811,604, the lowest since records were first kept in 1899.

'Hawkeye' Actor In "Critical But Stable Condition", Here's What Happened

Marvel actor Jeremy Renner was airlifted on Sunday after the safety feature on his Snowcat plow failed and sent it rolling over his legs. According to TMZ, the 'Hawkeye' actor was alone and trying to clear a path out of his Lake Tahoe home when the machine accidentally ran over one of his legs, causing him to lose a significant amount of blood.

Speaking to the outlet, eyewitnesses said that Mr Renner was plowing the road about a quarter mile from his home so that his family could get out after a massive New Year's eve storm. The plowing machine - called a Snowcat - then accidentally ran over one of his legs.

According to TMZ, after the freak accident, the area was treated like an active crime scene. One of Mr Renner's neighbours, who's a doctor, managed to place a tourniquet on the 'Avengers' star's leg until paramedics arrived to fly him to the hospital. His injuries are "extensive" as along with his leg, other parts of his body have also been injured, the media outlet reported.

In a statement, Mr Renner's spokesperson previously said that the actor was in "critical but stable condition" after the injury. "His family is with him, and he is receiving excellent care," the spokesperson added.

Mr Renner has a house in the Mount Rose-Ski Tahoe area. Last month, the actor shared several updates on social media as Lake Tahoe received large amounts of snow. "Nearly done with sledding hill for the kids," he wrote on an Instagram story showing a snow plow last week. "Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke," he separately wrote on Twitter while sharing an image of a vehicle covered in snow.

The 51-year-old has played 'Hawkeye', a member of Marvel's Avengers superheroes team, in several movies and a television series. Mr Renner has also twice been nominated for an Oscar, for his role in 'The Hut Locker' and 'The Town'.

UPI Reaches Record High of Payments Worth Rs. 12.82 Lakh Crore in December 2022

Payments through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) touched a record high of Rs. 12.82 lakh crore in December. During the month, 782 crore transactions in volume terms were done on the platform, which was launched in 2016.

"UPI has made major contribution in ushering digital payment revolution in the country. In December 2022, UPI has crossed 7.82 billion transactions worth Rs. 12.82 trillion (Rs. 12.82 lakh crore)," the Department of Financial Services said in a tweet on Monday.

Payments through UPI had crossed the Rs. 12 lakh crore mark in October this year.

In November, as many as 730.9 crore transactions worth Rs. 11.90 lakh crore had taken place via UPI.

UPI is an instant real-time payment system which facilitates inter-bank peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions. The transaction is done through mobile in easy steps. Besides, there are no charges applicable for UPI transactions.

The inexpensive medium for cashless transactions has been gaining traction month-on-month and 381 banks are live on it.

UPI transactions have increased dramatically in both volume and value terms over the last year, Spice Money founder Dilip Modi said.

"The main advantage of UPI is the convenience it brings with it. UPI allows money to be transferred between multiple accounts without needing separate profiles for each transaction, making it easy for the user to transact. Another reason is that UPI is a simple, fast and secure way of transaction. UPI has been a major tool in driving financial inclusion," he said.

A few days back, Paytm also released its Recap report for 2022, calling Delhi-National Capital Region emerged as India's digital payments capital. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's Katpadi was claimed to be the fastest-growing city for digital payments with 7X growth in 2022. It was also noted that the maximum number of payments have been done at 7.23 pm with Wednesday emerging as the busiest day in the week for digital transactions.

Rajnath Singh Heads To Arunachal, 1st Visit Since China Clash Last Month

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday to inaugurate a series of development projects. The visit comes a month after India and China troops clashed along the Line of Actual Control in Tawang sector.

Mr Singh will inaugurate the Siyom Bridge near Boleng in Siang district and also virtually inaugurate 27 projects of Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

The 100-metre long Siyom bridge over river Siyom is a strategically important bridge as it gives the military strategic advantage in deploying troops to the far flung areas of the Line of Actual Control.

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has constructed a total of 3,097 km of roads in Arunachal Pradesh in the last five years, many of them leading to the forward areas.

In a statement in Parliament, Rajnath Singh had said Chinese troops tried to "unilaterally" change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Yangtse area of Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang sector on December 9, but the Indian Army compelled them to retreat with its "firm and resolute" response.

The face-off took place amid the over 30-month border standoff between the two sides in eastern Ladakh.

"Rishabh Pant Swerved Car To Avoid Pothole": Uttarakhand Chief Minister

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who on Sunday visited injured Rishabh Pant at the Max Hospital here, said the cricketer's car hit the divider while he was trying to avoid a pothole on the Delhi-Dehradun highway.

Pant is stable and his condition is improving, sources at the hospital said.

"He (Pant) said the car swerved across the road while trying to avoid a pothole or something black," Dhami told reporters after meeting the cricketer at the hospital.

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) Director, Shyam Sharma, who met Pant on Saturday, had also said quoting the batter that the accident occurred when he was trying to negotiate a pothole in the early hours of Friday.

The massive accident had occurred at around 5.30 am on Friday when Pant's luxury car hit a road divider near Roorkee in Haridwar district and burst into flames causing multiple injuries to the cricketer who had a miraculous escape.

The chief minister was at the hospital for nearly an hour taking an update on Pant's condition from his mother, sister and doctors.

He assured them that the state government will give all help for the treatment of the cricketer.

Earlier in the day, Dhami announced that the Haryana Roadways driver and conductor who rushed to the cricketer's rescue immediately after the accident and helped save his life will be honoured on the occasion of the Republic Day.

"By saving the life of the cricketer at the risk of their own lives, the Haryana Roadways driver and conductor have set an example for others. The state government will honour them on January 26," Dhami said at the inauguration of a residential hostel for orphans and poor children here.

Haryana Roadways bus driver Sushil Kumar and conductor Paramjit saw Pant's car hitting a divider and rolling to the other side of the road. They parked the bus along the roadside and rushed to rescue the cricketer. They pulled him out of the car and called the police.

Viral Photo Pays Tribute To Celebrities Who Died In 2022

From film stars to world leaders to the Queen herself, the world lost a number of beloved and influential figures in 2022 who made their mark in the worlds of film, music, sports, and politics. Paying tribute to them, a picture has surfaced on social media sites showing hundreds of celebrities who died in 2022. More than 190 celebrities including Queen Elizabeth, Madeleine Albright, Shane Warne, Sidney Poitier, Robbie Coltrane, Olivia Newton-John, Ray Liotta, Coolio, Bob Saget, Taylor Hawkins, and Dame Deborah James have been featured in the image.

Queen Elizabeth's death in September was arguably the most high-profile death in 2022. The Queen died aged 96 on September 8, after 70 years on the throne, making her one of the world's longest-serving monarchs. One of the most shocking death was of 16-year-old Kailia Posey, who appeared in the reality TV show 'Toddlers and Tiaras' and is known as the face of the 'Grinning Girl' meme. She died by suicide.

In the final days of 2022, the world said goodbye to several beloved figures including Brazilian footballer Pele, British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood and US television journalist Barbara Walters. On New Year's Eve, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI died at the age of 95.

A Reddit page called r/pics shared the image and captioned it as ''Year 2022 was ruthless. RIP.''

See the image here:

The artwork has been originally created by a British artist named Chris Barker. According to a Reuters report, the image is inspired by the cover art for The Beatles' 1967 album, ‘Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'.

Here is the original image and a list of all celebrities featured:

Reacting to the image, one user wrote, ''Another year, another excellent @christhebarker collage tribute to those who left us this year. These always get me, as there are those you'd forgotten had gone, and some you didn't know. Taylor Hawkins sitting next to the drum is a nice touch. RIP all.''

Not just in 2022, the British artist produces such artwork every year, capturing the public figures who died during the year.

“I've been doing this since 2016. That was the year anyone who was nice or kind or creative or special decided it was time to leave before the bad stuff started. Or at least that's how it felt at the time. I've become a little bit desensitised to it over the years. I mean, I still try and keep the star's dignity and think of their loved ones and how it would make them feel to see it, but – let's face it – I make notes over the course of the year now rather than just waiting til November. It's a thing,” Mr Barker told Billboard in 2016.
