Everygirl Editors’ Holy Grail Beauty Products—and Where to Get Them
At the Everygirl office, we’re constantly talking about a lot of things — who got kicked off The Bachelor this week, Meghan Markle’s latest #OOTD, and, most importantly, the latest beauty products that are changing. our. lives. Oh my god, you guys have to try this foundation! and That new moisturizer has totally transformed my skin… are common phrases heard ’round the water cooler.
As die-hard beauty fanatics, we know the best place to buy your products with incredible benefits is Sephora. There is no better beauty rewards system than Sephora’s Beauty Insider Program. With perks like exclusive discounts and promotions, a birthday gift, and free makeovers, it’s truly a game-changer. Why not put your beauty obsession to good use and save some money while you’re testing out top products?
Since we’ve basically tried out as many beauty products as a group of people possibly can, here are the products we’ve tried that have not only earned permanent spots in our beauty routines, but are also so good, we can’t live without them. Sign up to be a Beauty Insider and shop our Holy Grail beauty products, below:
Lip Sleeping Mask
If I was stranded on a desert island and could only have one product, it would be this. I had the driest lips that no product even came close to curing, until I tried this. It. is. a. miracle. It cured my dry, winter lips literally overnight, and when I use this my lips look extra plump in the morning. I will be loyal to this until the day I die.
Banana Bright Eye Crème
I bought this after a dermatologist to the stars recommended it on a Fat Mascara podcast (my favorite!), and it is no joke. It makes your dark circles literally vanish, and gives you instant results.
Radiant Creamy Concealer
An oldie but a goodie, this concealer is my holy grail. If super thick concealer isn’t your jam (@ me), this gives you all the coverage with none of the cake. It covers anything you want to hide — from dark circles to surprise pimples — and is literally undetectable.
Backlight Priming Filter
You know the pretty filter on Instagram stories that makes you look like a glowing goddess? This is it in real life. It makes you look like you’re glowing from within in a non-sparkly way, and transforms even the most tired of complexions. It’s even perfect for no-makeup days!
The Littles
I am Drunk Elephant's #1 fan. Seriously, if you know nothing about skincare and you walked blindly over to their section at Sephora and picked the first thing your hands touched a la Birdbox, I can basically promise you'll love it. Before this collection of minis, I was forced to sacrifice some of my favorite products for TSA-friendly alternatives, but by the time I returned home my skin would always be PISSED OFF. I am so happy I finally broke down and bought the Littles collection so that I always have my favorite products on hand. If you've never tried Drunk Elephant and don't want to pick your first product Birdbox style, I would recommend getting this set to test it out and find your own favorites.
Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder
I received this compact on my wedding day from my maid of honor, and ever since I have wondered how I lived without this setting powder. It keeps my makeup in place while still looking natural. It never creases or settles in your face folds. Think of it as a 24/7 Instagram beauty filter.
Perfect Cleansing Oil
If you make one beauty resolution for 2019, please please please (I'm making the praying hand emoji sign to you RN) decide this is the year you're going to start double cleansing. Odds are you already have a gel cleanser, so you just need to invest in a good oil cleanser and read this article.
Triple Sec
If you love the way your hair holds a wave or body on second or third hair day (but don't love having dirty locks), then you will love this holy grail pick. I love to spray it on my curls when they look a little too perfect... and on days when it doesn't even need it (because the smell is that heavenly).
Charlotte's Magic Cream
I love this super-powered moisturizer as much as I love the act of putting it on. The container is so beautiful and the formula is so rich, I truly feel like my own version of Blair Waldorf or Princess Kate when I decide the day is special enough to put it on. Magic Cream sits beautifully under makeup and moisturizes while helping diminish fine lines and wrinkles, so it truly lives up to its name.
Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment
Okay so I know this is an investment but TRUST ME it's the best investment you can make in your face, full stop. Since I started using this (basically solid gold) miracle liquid, I have received more compliments on my skin than the entire rest of my life combined. I would die for this. I would literally throw my body on top of it to protect it. Bonus: it lasts a good long while and the jar is seriously freakin' beautiful.
Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint
I remember Lisa Eldridge (my queen) saying once that a lot of people have better skin than they think they do, but they cover up ALL the skin with foundation, instead of just the areas that need a little TLC. This totally changed the way I do my makeup, and now I use this skin tint to even everything out and add some ~glow~, and then go back in with a concealer if I need extra help or have a blemish that has a personal vendetta against me. This is the best tinted moisturizer I have ever used — it's light and bouncy and leaves you looking like the sun just happened to beam directly from heaven and onto your face.
Hydrating Mask
I am the most extra person I know about my hair — I have tried approximately eleventy billion products and have spent (upsettingly) more than two hours loitering in an aisle trying to decide between two volumizing shampoos. As a Hair PersonTM, I am never without AT LEAST two bottles of this mask and sometimes (okay all the time) have small internal panic attacks if I forget to pack it when I'm traveling. I have gifted it to no less than four people. I would fling myself into a cake frosted entirely with it. Is my point coming across?
Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo
I am convinced that a witch was involved in the making of this dry shampoo because it actually cleans your hair??? It's truly shocking, especially after years of dry "shampoos" that are actually just a weird white residue that will age you 10 years and make your hair somehow greasy and volumized which is the worst combination possible. Instead, this is actually a shampoo that doesn't need water and it's a freakin' miracle.
T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial
The reason this exfoliating mask is a cult fave is because IT WORKS. I religiously use this AHA/BHA mask every Sunday, rinse, apply marula oil, and wake up the next day with soft, gorgeous skin. It clears up breakouts, exfoliates so my skin is brighter, and helps with uneven texture.
Polished Perfection Straightening Brush
I’m a sucker for any haircare shortcut — so I splurged on this with Sephora gift cards. I have very curly hair, and this brush majorly cuts down my straightening time. I blow dry my hair, separate into two sections, and quickly run the brush through to get rid of frizz and any leftover curl.
Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate
This winter is killing my skin — so I’ve revamped my usual routine of serums, oils, and creams to include a hydrating gel. This one is free of fragrance, parabens, and phthalates.
Gimme Brow+ Volumizing Eyebrow Gel
One of the best compliments I’ve ever received was when my eyebrow gal asked if she could take a photo after she finished my routine brow wax and tint… Ever since then, I’ve been determined to keep up with my filled-in brows. I’ve tried lots of brow gels, and this one is my fave. It’s volumizing, doesn’t get sticky when it dries, and comes in a million different shades.
C-Firma Day Serum
This is the non-negotiable in my skincare routine. Need proof? I’ve repurchased this product four times according to my Sephora order history. C-Firma is packed with nutrients, fruit enzymes, and other goodies to fight pollution, wrinkles, and other skin damage. I apply it every morning before my moisturizer and sunscreen and it has majorly lightened my melasma and keeps my skin bright.
Violet-C Brightening Serum 20% Vitamin C + 10% AHA
Meet my ride-or-die serum: a skincare product so good, I can no longer leave my house without putting it on — it makes that much of a difference, immediately. With 20% Vitamin C (most products are much lower), added antioxidants, and 10% AHAs, this serum will brighten your face and even your skin tone more than any other product has before. As the biggest game-changer in my skincare routine, it's worth every penny.
Jet Lag Mask
Full disclosure, I was drawn to this pretty little mask for the Insta-worthy packaging and the fact that it has a cult-following to boot (I mean, if you have an Instagram account, you've likely seen this mask). But I was shocked at how good the immediate results really were. It was so hydrating and moisturizing that my skin literally looked a world of a difference after I put it on. Plus, it feels so refreshing instead of heavy. Sure, it's a mask, but my real secret is that I put it on under makeup — my skin has NEVER looked better.
Small Scrunchies
I've been a die-hard SLIP fan forever (their silk pillowcases are my savior), so of course, I had to try out their scrunchies. Take it from someone who has more bad hair days than good, these scrunchies MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE. I've actually thrown away all of my other hair ties, because these magical little scrunchies don't crease, break, or pull hair, leaving me with many more good hair days. Plus, the small style is discreet enough to wear in public without looking like a scrunchie from the 80's (I even wear mine to the office!). Your damaged hair will thank you.
Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
If you couldn't tell already, I'm on a constant quest for glow-y skin. Of all the many products that promise a more radiant complexion, this one actually delivers insane results. AHAs work to smooth skin tone and slough off dead skin cells while you sleep, and the texture is breathable, light, and airy (not to mention smells delicious!). I truly wake up looking like I just got a facial. Who knew watermelon was the real superfood?
Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydra-Gel Eye Patches
I have chronic, genetic, awful under-eye dark circles. If I'm a little tired, dehydrated (aka hungover), or even just living my normal life, it shows under my eyes. No eye creams or face masks have ever made even a dent of a difference, until these beautiful little eye patches came onto the scene. Loaded with ingredients like collagen and marshmallow root extract, these eye patches are my travel must-have (yes, I really do wear them on the plane), and the only fix I've ever found to hangover puffiness or tired eyes.

7 Reasons Why You and Your S.O. Need Time Apart
Being in a romantic relationship usually sounds wonderful. You have a constant companion to go on all your adventures with and you never have to worry about ordering a wrong dish (what’s mine is yours, babe). But when two people decide to commit themselves to one another, they’re not only agreeing to experience life together, but also agreeing to spend their lives together as individuals.
Whether you’ve been in a relationship for 10 years or two weeks (or simply thinking about getting back into the game), it’s important to remember that you are a whole person and were a whole person before you became part of a team. And just because you’re in a relationship with someone doesn’t mean you have to be with them 24/7. Being apart from them allows you to reset and feel comfortable being with your own company.
But if you’re still not convinced that you and your boo need time apart every once in a while, scroll below to see all the reasons why you should give yourself some much-deserved “me time.”
To Recharge
Not everyone who is in a relationship will thrive by being connected at the hip with their S.O. Eventually, you may feel drained or irritated, and your energy is a vital component of how you thrive in your relationship (there’s no way you be your best self without recharging every once in a while).
But how you choose to recharge is completely up to you. Do you want to take an hour-long bath and read a book you’ve been meaning to complete? Want to go to the movies by yourself and cry your eyes out? How about going out with the girls? However which way you choose to take time to re-energize, just be mindful of your actions and don’t feel guilty. The right partner will understand that you need time for yourself to be yourself with them. Don’t worry, they’ll be there once you return; and so will you, back at 100 percent.
To Have More Things to Talk About With Your Partner
Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you’re with your partner, you’re not really with them? You may sit next to them or be in the same room as them, but you don’t actually interact with them. Sitting in silence or scrolling on your phone is cool to do every once in a while, but if this happens more than you’d like to admit, it may be because you guys literally have nothing to talk about.
Creating that space to do things on your own will allow you to bring new experiences to the table. Check in with yourself to see what kind of interests you want to tap into. Want to paint? Start a side hustle? Go on a solo trip to Amsterdam? Do it and share your experience with your S.O. Being constantly around each other limits conversation topics because your partner has already experienced what you’ve experienced, so doing things on your own will not only give you more stories to talk about, but will also make you feel more comfortable to do these things on your own.
To Have the Ability to Build a Relationship With Yourself
Just as RuPaul says, “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?” Even though relationships are there to comfort a need we want, that doesn’t mean that we should forget the relationship we have with ourselves because someone else decided to join the party. There are moments in your life when you need to be alone to reflect on who you are, where you’ve been, and where you plan to be. Use this newfound “me time” to find new interests, to learn to enjoy your alone time, to write in a journal and to rummage through your thoughts. Whether your romantic relationship lasts or not, you’ll always be in a relationship with yourself, so you might as well make it the best one you got.
To Rekindle With Your Own Voice
Have you ever met (or become) one of those types of people who’s in a relationship that says “we” when talking about literally anything, even when they’re not with their partner? While there’s nothing wrong with using a different pronoun than “I”, it could indicate that time apart from their partner is needed.
It’s important for you, as an individual, to bring your own ideas, thoughts, and opinions to all your relationships. Rekindling with your voice will eliminate the outside noise, and help you solve your own problems without hearing or comparing it to your partner’s or other people’s opinions.
To Have the Time to Tend to Your Other Relationships
Even though your partner might be the most important person in your life, it’s vital to make time for friends and family who love you. Being with your partner 24/7 can feel isolating. It’s not quite realistic to expect them to solve all your needs. Your friends and family (even your coworkers!) are there to provide a different kind of care and love that maybe your S.O. cannot.
Establish a support system outside of your romantic relationship with people who love and care for you by developing a few relationship intentions this year to keep things in check. Make a few calls to friends when you have downtime, go to brunch with a family member you’ve been meaning to catch up with, or invite a new friend out to the movies. Making room for the other people in your life can make you feel fulfilled, supported, and loved in more ways than you can imagine.
To Accomplish Your Own Goals
Most likely than not, you and your partner don’t have the exact same goals. You may want to direct a movie one day and they may want to become a computer genius. Even though your partner will support your journey and listen to your ideas, you’re the only one who can put things in motion to make your dreams come true — and you may not be able to do that if you’re constantly hanging with your boo, watching Netflix (sorry, Netflix). Set some time aside each week to go over your plans and what you want to accomplish and maybe even have your partner do the same. Once you guys come together, you both will have more of an idea of the kind of life you want to create.
Oh, by the way, being alone enhances your creativity, so you even have more of a reason to spend time away to go after your goals.
To Improve Your Romantic Relationship
At the end of the day, a healthy relationship requires each person to find ways to make themselves happy by not depending on the other person to do it for them. When you spend time away from your S.O., you’re giving room for each one of you to grow in your own right, without being co-dependent. While there’s nothing wrong with being needy or feeling wanted, it’s imperative for each of you to communicate your needs and wants so that everyone is on the same page.
Ideally, your partner shouldn’t be there to make you feel whole. You invited this person into your life because you already feel whole and you just want to enjoy life with them by your side. Plus, choosing to go through life together is a wonderful bonus to your already amazing life. And how beautiful is that?

The Magic of the Middle: Showing Up When Your Next Promotion is Far Off
When we first start our careers, promotions come quickly, which changes as we rise up the ranks and start taking roles with greater responsibility. If you happen to take a big risk and jump industries or tackle a major geographical relocation, you can also probably plan on a little more time until your next promotion.
So what do we do with this career stretch in the middle? We’re not completely brand new to the working world, but haven’t quite become senior enough in our current chapter to be on the verge of promotion. Interestingly enough, the “middle” is where all the good things happen — it’s where we learn, become experts, meet new colleagues, and develop secondary skills that can come back to play a great role later in our careers. It’s also ironically where we end up spending the majority of time in our careers, so getting comfortable with the in-between and learning how to make the most of that time is an essential career skill.
How do you know if you’re in the middle? You might feel like you finally have a strong command of your job on a day-to-day basis. Colleagues come to you for answers and you’re seen as a core part of a team that you’re on. You may have just nailed a developmental goal that your management had for you like bolstering your public speaking skills or taking on a large project. And you’re probably still learning new things, think your work is intellectually stimulating and personally rewarding, and find that most days of the week you go home feeling satisfied at the work you’re doing.
If you’re feeling all of these things but know that you’re not quite ready — for any number of reasons — to tackle responsibilities at the next step on the ladder, consider how some of these goals can make your middle more meaningful:
Education
The perfect time to pursue a new chapter of education is when you feel like you’ve got your day job under control. You might be itching to learn something new slightly outside of your direct work jurisdiction, or maybe you just need the extra mental bandwidth to pursue that industry certification that would really take your career to the next level.
Educational pursuits can be a little daunting, so break down the goal like you would any other office objective. Plot out mini milestones and mark them in your calendar alongside work goals; that might look like researching schools, defining your course timeline, or figuring out a compelling narrative to help get your employer pay for school.
Reflection and Visualization
The middle is also a perfect time to start some serious career reflection without the pressure of immediate action. As the saying goes, the best time to start looking for a job is before you need one! Without necessarily having an end in mind, start some active visualization around what your next chapter looks like.
Don’t be terribly concerned with the exact details of what title might come or exactly how you’d make it happen. Instead, do a thoughtful audit of your current job. What tasks do you love doing? What parts of your job do other people say you’re great at? Do those line up with what you actually enjoy?
With your arms more squarely around your “today,” start routinely visualizing the future. What are you creating in your next job? How is it fulfilling the other goals in your life? Taking the time to go through these visualization exercises and actually writing down the things that come up for us can help shape that reality into being. It makes you more attuned to opportunities as they arise and gives you a useful point of reference to go back to that was created outside of a pressure-filled decision point.
Live The Life Outside
Even at our most driven, our job is only a single part of our entire lives. What is it for you that lives outside of the workday that could use some attention? If you are in middle-mode at work, think about the other hours of the day that could be filled with more focused effort around relationships, hobbies, family planning, or wellness.
As more of us get comfortable with the idea that the perfect ongoing state of work-life balance is a bit of a myth, take advantage of this life season over the work season. In the same way you may otherwise aggressively goal yourself to take home work or set aggressive objectives in your day job, apply that same rigor at home. Commit to reading a book two nights a week instead of your usual pile of expense report review. Schedule bi-weekly lunch dates with friends you haven’t seen in a while instead of work-related conferences. These personal moments add up and will refuel your sense of self when you have to put your foot back on the gas at work.
Network
The most powerful networking you will do is when you are not on a job hunt. It allows you to be your most authentic self, and connect with people simply for connection’s sake. For us introverts, networking is a stretch anyway, so this can be a perfect time to get in touch with new people. It’s an awesome opportunity to tap experts in your field without feeling like you have a veiled job hunting objective.
Take some risks in your outreach. Did someone interesting pop up in your suggested contacts on LinkedIn? Drop them a note pointing out something interesting or a shared aspect of your backgrounds and ask if they’d be open to a 15 minute phone call to hear more about their work. Many of these cold pitches will go unreturned — but either way, this outreach grows your courage muscle!
What Not to Do
If you’re a real go-getter, taking some time to just be grounded in the present can elicit its own sort of panic. Feelings can creep up that you’re not enough, or that you’re somehow stalling in your career not taking an ultra-active path toward the next step. (Guilty.)
In those moments, we can ground ourselves with the reminder that most of life happens in the middle. Beginnings are fun, but certainly come with their own scary stressors; endings often feel a little nostalgic as we part ways with a previous chapter. Being able to spot the middle point of a career moment and make the most of it is a skill that can serve us our entire careers.
Where are you at in your current job development? How would you spend your “middle” stretch?
